Another envision 08 post
For those of you confused by the lack of structure on some of the earlier posts, I am bloggingBut r from a conference, often as people speak. So I don’t really know if it makes sense, but I figure it’s better to share my notes than keep them to myself.
Tonight, I heard some amazing preaching. A Native American Christian shared his experience–Twist is his last name. He didn’t pull punches. But really, I was overwhelmed–hence the lack of blogging the preaching experience.
All I can say is that I was convicted, and I know that there is grace. Good preaching does that.
I guess the other thing that I can say is that the church is going to look different in the future (duh). White churches are shrinking, but the church is growing. Odds are pretty good that I will be a minority when I retire. A lot of tonight was think about how much of my religion is the gospel of Jesus Christ, and how much is Western culture? This is an important thing to figure out, because one is going away, and the other one isn’t.
Did I say going away? I guess I did. It sounds kind of radical, but culture always changes. So what we know now isn’t what we had 20 years ago, and won’t be what we have later.
In other news, I’ve outlined Sunday’s sermon. I can’t wait to share it. If you want to be more ready for it, read Genesis 18 and 19, as well as Matthew 10.
