Closing speaker: Jim Wallis

Jun 10th, 2008 by drew | 1

What follows are notes from his message.
What kind of movement do we need right now?
We need some good news.
A lot of religion is happy talk that avoids the bad news.
But revival happens when bad news is answered by good news.

How’s this for irony?  As soon as I finished typing this, we heard [...]

Another envision 08 post

For those of you confused by the lack of structure on some of the earlier posts, I am bloggingBut r from a conference, often as people speak.  So I don’t really know if it makes sense, but I figure it’s better to share my notes than keep them to myself.
Tonight, I heard some amazing preaching.  [...]

Shane Claiborne (spoke last night, from the Simple Way and author of “Jesus for President”)
Q: Ho do you identify temptation? Is it because it is a luxury?
A: “All temptations are a temptation to do something good. . . . the tree wasn’t bad fruit . . . the temptation was to be like God [...]

Shalom Theology

Jun 9th, 2008 by drew | 1

Genesis 1 is the best picture of Shalom in the Bible (Lisa Sharon Harper is saying this, although I would agree that it is in the top 3).
But even in that text, we see sea monsters.  Israelites feared sea monsters, but Genesis affirms that God made them.
Why is the tree there?  In the midst of [...]
